Connect, Read, and Learn English Together with Capilano University's Department of Community Development & Outreach.
Join us for weekly gatherings where we read, learn, and practice English in a supportive and welcoming environment. This free, community-based program is open to adults aged 18 and up, and is designed for people with English as an additional language or anyone wanting to improve their English skills. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, build confidence, and explore stories together.
We choose a book to read together at a slow and steady pace, usually covering 5-7 pages per session. We pause to discuss vocabulary, summarize the story, and explore key themes. Everyone gets a chance to practice reading aloud, work on pronunciation, and ask questions about words or phrases they find difficult. Tea and snacks are always provided!
The English Learners Book Club is facilitated by a faculty member from Capilano University’s Community Development and Outreach (CDO) Department, in collaboration with a staff member from The Pearl Space. The Squamish Public Library provides in-kind support to help make this program possible.
The Community Development & Outreach (CDO) department at Capilano University is committed to reaching people who may not have access to traditional campus-based programs. By using a learner-centered approach, we create accessible literacy opportunities for adults living in Squamish, fostering connection and learning for everyone involved.
Come read with us, share stories, and grow your English skills in a friendly and supportive space!
